Does a new Henry, out of the box need any prep before shooting it? Thanks!

ALWAYS look down the barrel, and maybe give it a quick swab out before shooting it but this should have already been done prior to purchase.

Some will need the inner mag tube cleaned out. My .41 mag carbine did. Easy to do, just knock the retaining pin out with a punch and run a patch thru it.

.
In both of mine the bore was quite dirty. After test firing Henry does not clean. Also, like Gunny, the inside of the inner magtube had gritty brass filings left over from the machining process used to form the inner magtube.

What I do with all my new guns... swab out the barrel with a patch soaked with brake clean quick dry solvent and then spray bore with Ballistol
and a patch or bore snake pull thru.

I've found the barrels need to be cleaned every (5, in my experience) time, and I always go over any new rifle to remove excess oil, grease, preservative, etc. wherever it might be. I don't think Henrys arrive any dirtier than anything else, really.

I always give a new gun, a thorough cleaning, Never know what you'll find in there. Better safe than sorry.

I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
