200 rounds in

Post by 6MT » Sun Jan 05, 2020 11:25 pm

So I've fired 200 rounds of factory ammo in my new BBS in .44mag. Mostly to acquire some brass for loading. And to also check the sights and function of the rifle. So far so good...except ....

After the first range trip, I noticed the butt was loose. The second trip, the same thing happened as well as the fore end. The third trip, all of the screws on the receiver were loose. In fact, the one just above the trigger on the right side of the receiver had backed out about half way.

I'm not really a fan of applying thread locker, but it is getting tiresome to have to look at every fastener after every range trip. Is it just me, or has anyone else had almost every fastener come loose?

we use Purple Locktite .... it is designed for small screws and provides just enough strength to keep the ones on our Henry from backing out

Ive not had this happen with mine. Once in a while I find a screw that needs a twist but not on a regular basis.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

When ever I get a rifle that is new to me , I check every screw and fastener.

The screws on both of my Henrys have never been a problem, but those on my .357 SAA need to be watched carefully. Blue Locktite holds them in place for a while, but eventually a few will need to have it re-applied.

Ok, I'll do everything with the purple stuff. I use that stuff on other rifles anyways.

Thanks everyone!

Damn-it!! Another shameless picture...

BTW, to all you folks ....which sling do you like better? The one above is the Simply Rugged one. And the one below is a generic Amazon thingy.

Normally I prefer leather but I like the Amazon sling better in this case. Looks like a better fit length wise.

Ditto

I bought the black one offered on the Henry site. Has the Henry logo on it and very affordable.
Would like a pretty leather one though.

They both look good, but I like the leather one. Then I'm partial to leather. Great looking gun. I really like the lumber.
