.
I also have no desire for a .45-70 or the .410. I already have an older Mossberg .410 that sees semi-regular use on the non-native squirrels.

Is that a 500 E?
If so I have one also.

A couple weeks ago two friends and I shot a round of sporting clays with 410's.
Was fun but, none of us even hit 50% :o

It is the 500E with extra long barrel full choke. Not surprised with your success rate on shooting clays. From having tested it's range on squirrels at various distances, could not see it doing well at clay shooting. Does yours sometimes drop the next round at your feet when cycling the pump? I used up the last paper shells I had. The newer plastic ones are slick and a lot of them would rather drop out than chamber.

Yes, but thought it was just me not getting the shells all the way in.
I bought it years ago for the son when he was just coming up.
Now I'm holding on to it for the grandsons.

I simply wouldn't have any interest in firing (much less than owning) one in a rifle with a metal butt plate
That’s a perfect candidate for a leather stock wrap with some foam at the back end of it. Shooting the 405 grain cowboy action loads took the recoil of my .45-70 Marlin from 12 gauge level down to less than my .357 BBSC. I was all set to maybe sell it as I never shot it, but now I love shooting it!

I've fired hundreds of HSM Cowboy Action 405 gr'ers through our highly modified CCH 45-70 and they are indeed fun to fire .... I hope to be able to spend some time tomorrow developing a similar load around 300 gr Nosler Ballistic Silvertips .... HSM list the muzzle velocity at 1300 fps .... my hope it to come up with a load that pushes our Noslers at 1200 +/- .... with the lighter bullet, the recoil shouldn't be bad at all

Just got these in an email from Henry. Big Boomers for you guys with pain free shoulders. That 45-70 sidegate will be a talker.
I know that there many, many folks out there who will disagree and that's fine .... while I'm glad to see them expand their Side Gate Lever Action line and as big of a fan as I am for the 45-70 caliber, I simply wouldn't have any interest in firing (much less than owning) one in a rifle with a metal butt plate
Exactly the reason I bought the CCH model not to mention I like the CCH models alot.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Why would anybody want to ruin beautifully dulled patina brass with a big hole in the side?

Why is Henry not offering the side gate in the most popular rifles like .357 .44 Mag and .45 Colt?
I would have started in those calibers first!
