When I bought my AR at Walmart even though it was in a box the sales guy at the counter had to carry it out to the parking lot after I paid for it.

My local gun store does carry it up to the register after they complete the paperwork but they have no register at the gun counter so that makes sense.

We have two Walmarts in my city; one is a super Walmart. Both stores carry Henry and Marlin levers. The Henry’s have always been the Big Boy Classics and Golden Boys. The inventory moves fairly quickly. The main issue I have is their policy of not allowing customers to work the actions on the Henrys, no problems with the Marlins.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

The whole "walking you to (or out) the front door is some kind of Big Box issue. I bought my SGC online at Academy Sports (long story), and picked it up at a nearby location. All the paperwork was done back in the sporting goods/firearms dept, by a very specific individual, and then another very specific individual had to walk be up to the cashier stand in the front of the store (while she still held the rifle) so I could "check out," even though I'd already paid for the rifle online.
THen they handed me the rifle and "specific individual #2" (from the Sporting Goods dept) escorted me to the door - "Have a nice day!"
Had nothing to compare it to other than LGS transactions, but it was weird. They all seemed frightened of the whole process.

Ran in to same deal at local Field and Stream store when I bought my last pistol. Had to be walked outside, then they handed it to me. BTW, F&S is offering the basic H001 right now for $299.00.

Yes, in my experience, when they have them they are usually brass versions.

This is an interesting couple of points. You “could shop only at Fred’s, Stan’s, Lowe’s and Amazon”, but buy most of your guns at the local independent store. I think the majority of people shop at the big retailers, but without the small guys, life would sure be boring! I don’t think I’ve ever bought a gun at anything but an independent. I have Cabelas and Bass Pro within 20 mins too.

To get back on topic, my local Wally World only has ammo.

Stan's is the local independant store I was talking about. We used to have a couple of local independent hardware/lumber stores and I try to get most of my hardware needs at Stan's but they don't have the selection of a Lowes and lumber is strictly available at Lowes/Home Depot now. I mostly avoid Walmart but do go there occasionally. As far as Grocery /Supermarkets, major chains are the only ones available. Seems that most of the local independants now are small speciality stores. Used to be 3 local independant camera stores here , they couldn't come close to competing with the big online camera stores. My first digital camera was $300 cheaper online and as much as I like to support local merchants I couldn't pass up that much of a discount.

What is the reason for not allowing action operation on the Henry's ?
