Firearm "Blueing"
Are Henry's blued, painted or other?
The blueing on my H001T is flaking off.
What is bluing?

The receiver cover is painted. Many of us have removed all of the paint and then treated the bare metal in various ways.

I just scraped the black off the Modle # and serial # area with my finger nail.
I've seen the mods before on the forum.
Thank you Sir.

Re: Firearm "Blueing"
That is disturbing to me, Have been thinking about buying one of the H001's but would never buy a rifle with a "painted" receiver. At a local gun show recently I was looking at them and that is what I thought I saw. Seller didn't know when I asked.
Bummer!

The rifle still shoots great. Never had a mechanica issue with it. And still much less than a used marlin.
Still gonna be a family heirloom.
I've been doing a detailed comparison between a '58 marlin 39A and this Henry.
I'm finding more similarity than difference.

Bluing is an oxidizing process used on steel. Henry rimfire receivers are an alloy.

Re: Firearm "Blueing"
Ojai, when you say it's flaking off, are you talking about the receiver specifically, or the bluing on the barrel?

I looked at one once and It appeared to have some type of baked on enamel.

Re: Firearm "Blueing"
Bluing won’t flake off as it is technically a ‘part’ of the metal due to the oxidizing process.or the bluing on the barrel?
