Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry
Time Marches On
Re: Time Marches On
Maybe so but the gummy tips are pointed and I still wonder when it's time to pay for a 30-30 how many would want to come up with the extra $$ for the Long Ranger and be limited by 30-30 ballistics when for the same money they could have the superior and higher pressure .308.

Henry will most certainly do their homework .... they have a good record of putting out products that sell .... many sell faster then they can be produced .... if they believe there is a market, hopefully they will produce it

Good point, they certainly have surprised me before. I guess only time will tell. Thanks for the intelligent discussion.

Re: Time Marches On
much of this falls in the "What Do I Know ?" category .... when I heard Henry was bringing out a line of single shot centerfire rifles, I was mystified .... I had no clue that there was a significant market for them .... they were certainly right ....

Another vote for .45 Colt. I’ve heard them called the poor mans 45/70. I have been surprised at how hot the .45 Colt can be loaded. Some 260 grain Buffalo Bore rounds really punched my shoulder. Most factory loads are much lighter and not much more of a thump than .357 Magnum. I’ve wanted a 45/70 for a long time, but I have arthritis in my neck and shoulder and must resist. It would be a good round to hand load for, and for that matter, the .45 Colt is a great little cartridge to hand load for.
I chronoed those 260 grain Buffalo Bore loads at 1883 fps and 2046 foot pounds of energy. I’ve only had my hand loads of 250 grain pills up to 1293 fps and 927 foot pounds of energy using Unique. I have no idea what powder Buffalo Bore uses, but those things are Hot.

Re: Time Marches On
all tooooo well understood on the arthritis .... our Henry 45-70 is fine rifle .... pull the trigger on a full power, dangerous game hunting load and can be assured of a strong punch .... load her with Cowboy Action level ammo and you will find a surprisingly comfortable round to shoot .... we just loaded 100 full power hunting 44 Mag rounds today .... I have fired twice that out of our Henry in a single trip to a range .... no way I can do that with our 45-70wingspar wrote:I’ve wanted a 45/70 for a long time, but I have arthritis in my neck and shoulder and must resist.
