I'd have to go with a steel version of the H009 30-30. It's about as generally useful, and easy to shoot, as you can get. But if I lived where a Grizzly Bear could be encountered, I'd ratchet up to a 45-70 .

My 357 carbine, the 38 can do so much, and the 357 is there as a bad boy... and with my skinner sights, she's a shooter.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I have the .22WMR and the BBS .44 carbine. Of the two, I would hang onto the .44.
Why? I dunno. An argument can be made for either one, I just choose the .44.
Besides, it costs a little more so you have to like it more to cough up the price of admission.

Re: Which one would you choose and why.
Under my current circumstances, my .357 H006M is pretty much useless outside of a shooting range. It's not a legal hunting firearm in CT unless used on 10 acres or more of private property and, other than that, can't legally be discharged outside of a shooting range.
On the other hand, my classic 22LR is a legal small game hunting rifle. It is my hope to enjoy hunting for the first time (at 67 yrs old), so I would choose it for that reason. That said, I prefer to shoot my BBB and I take it to the range much more often than my H001. When I begin to plan an outing of hunting squirrel or rabbit, I'll bring the H001 more often.

Re: Which one would you choose and why.
If I could only have one, and I reload, I would probably go with a 30-30 model as the .30-.30 is more versatile - when reloaded -than say over a .357 mag. The 30-30 can be loaded down to .38 special velocities on up to typical 30-30 rifle loadings with similar bullet weights.

I have to agree with the steel Carbine in 357. Such a versatile round, and rifle.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
