Which Flitz polish is best for maintaining the finish on Henry rifles with a bronze/brass receiver? Also, do those receivers have a lacquer finishing coat on them? I have a BB .44 Mag with the bronze/brass receiver and butt plate. Thanks

The Flitz I use comes in a small silver tube that just says "polish" and "Flitz". The brass alloy receiver on your Big Boy does not have a lacquer coat and will dull over time (small folks like that look) if you don't polish/wax it. The barrel band is brass and it will also dull over time. I think the butt plate is also brass, but I have not seen any dulling on any of our three brass Henry butt plates - don't know if it has a coating or not....

Flitz is a great polish for Big Boy Brass, but it will remove bluing from the screws. I apply it using a Q-tip to avoid that.

Theres a Brasso copper and brass polish you can buy at the grocery store that works well. I have used it for years. Doesnt hurt the bluing as it has no abrasives in it.

According the website, Flitz does not contain abrasives either. I hadn't heard about removing blueing but I would be inclined to contact Flitz for comfirmation. From the Flitz FAQ :

This includes all metals, from your best gold and silver to the aluminum and chrome on your car or motorcycle. Other solid surfaces include Fiberglass, Acrylic, Tile, Marble, Granite, Ceramic, Corian, Plexiglas, Eisenglass, and smooth vinyl. Flitz is also great on hard laminates like Formica."

When I got my first BBB .357 (model H006M) in 2013, I checked with Henry RAC about FLitz and how best to use on my rifle. Kevin Maguire was a tech advisor at that time; not sure if he is still with Henry or not. I used Flitz on my bronze BB and it worked great.

        Glad to hear you got the rifle in hand now.  For the receiver only we recommend either Flitz or Nevr-Dull to polish the brass.  Those polishes will take bluing off though, so do not use them on the screws or barrel.  For the barrel any old gun oil that you use in the bore is good enough to use on the outside of the barrel.  The wood has a polyurethane finish on it.  A soft cloth is all you need to wipe it down, if it gets dirty you can use a warm soapy cloth to clean it.
