Screws loose on 44
Screws loose on 44
I have a new HO12GCC and have been to the range twice so far. I noticed most of the screws have loosened up about a turn to almost a turn in a half. Is this normal for Henry rifles? Should they have loctite on them?

I always check the screws on my rifles and revolvers after or before range session. If you use Loctite use the blue but not on the lever screw.

The screws have a tendency to loosen on all my lever guns. I have a small gunsmith screwdriver set in my range bag and check them every time I shoot them. Purple loctite helps keep them tight.

There was a discussion awhile back about this knurled take down screw. It's been awhile and I can't find the thread. I believe he had got one and it fit his H012, I was wondering if it would fit a H006 and Henry confirmed that they used the same take down screw in both models. Anyway it should fit your 44 if you are interested in one.

Re: Screws loose on 44
All my lever guns had one or more screws come loose after the first few range trips. I retightened them up and most have not loosened again. There are a few that simply refuse to stay tight so I use a little purple loctite. Purple is made for firearms and similar applications where just a small amount of extra grip is needed. You can use blue loctite, but very sparingly.

I don't have a .44 may, but I have learned to check screws on all firearms, after usage.

Re: Screws loose on 44
I would agree with Leverjc ... Blue Loctite is generally a good option, but for the smaller screws purple. Even blue LT can cause you to strip out a smaller screw.

I will make sure to go through all my screws when I finally get my Henry
