Big Boy Steel 41 mag joined the family

Post by Hatchdog » Sat Feb 27, 2021 3:39 pm

Brought my BBS 41 carbine home today and I’m pretty excited to get it up and running. I’ve had an on and off love affair with the 41 mag starting in the early 80’s. Back then I had a M/57 6” blue Smith. Sometime later I traded it off. Around 10 years ago I started a collection of Marlins and ended up with the 1894FG 41 mag Marlin made for a few years. Then I added a 657 6” Smith so had two on hand. Both are gone now and have been for 3-4 years. So here I am in the 41 game again and I think I’ll stay longer this time. Got it added to the total.

Here’s a few pics of my new rifle and some accessories I have accumulated for it. The last pic shows my Big Boys all lined up and ready for duty. That odd ball on the left is my pre-64 M/94 in 30-30 that was my Dads. Soon it’s going to my nephew and that spot will be taken over by a Henry X-Model 30-30.

Range report to follow.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Gunny, that’s a good and bad story. After putting the 41 on lay away in December I was shopping for components and found the box of 41 210 XTP at a local store and grabbed it. A few weeks later I was in another store that had five boxes of the same on the shelf and I foolishly talked myself out of buying another box or two. After confirming once again what an idiot I can be at times I went back and of course they were gone. Been looking ever since but no luck.

Oh well, I do have the one box plus 100 Starline new brass and a pound of H110 so at least I can get started. Bought the box of remanufactured ammo from a local guy for $35 so I have those to get the scope on paper and have some fun shooting with it.

I've had the same late bird syndrome a few times last year. I've taken to carrying a few benjamins on me constantly, so if I spot a worm I can grab it right then. :) Trouble is there ain't many worms lately.

It’s Leupold’s VX Freedom 2-7x32. It’s become my go to scope for lever action rifles. Perfect size to match the lines of the levers. I first put one of these on a 10/22 Sporter and liked it so well it’s now my staple. Unfortunately Leupold has raised the price by $100 :o so what was an affordable option is now not so much....... :(
