I guess I'll have to be the odd man out here. I like polished brass. My Golden Boy and my Big Boy have also had their stocks polished to a glossy finish. The 45/70 has not. But it will probably get the treatment over the winter.
That's why they call it a Golden Boy! Mr. Ambassador likes to stay dressed in his finest for any occasion! Even the Buffalo's think this 45/70 is Purdy. All of my Henry's wear brass Skinner peep sights that I've reshaped and polished. You can't see it in these pics but I even polish the loading tubes!

The beauty of this problem is that it really doesn't matter. If you want patina let it go for while without polishing. if you decide you want shine most any good metal polish will bring the shine right back with little effort.
