I looked at loads with 5744 and they’re listed at about 1200 with the revolver. I would imagine that would not be too hot of a load. Maybe 45-70 marlin level.

The difference in bore diameter between a 45-70 and .500 S&W is only 0.043, so the basic barrel blank of the Henry 45-70 should easily handle it. It'd just be a matter of if there'd be great enough demand. Doesn't everyone need a .50 caliber of some sort? ;)

Doesn't everyone need a .50 caliber of some sort?
I guess that’s up to the individual.
I am one of the ‘practical’ types who owns guns in calibers that are fairly common, relatively inexpensive to load for and I can shoot all day without punishing myself.

.
I was wish list shopping Wednesday at Coastal Farm. They were selling .50 caliber rounds with a machined notch in the case for use as a bottle opener. Not much punishment in the use for that. Didn't buy one though.

I used to hear, "The smaller the boat, the more it's used". Might be the same for guns :D
