Trigger mod question.

Post by X-Hunter » Wed Mar 13, 2019 11:40 am

I bought myself a Henry Single shot rifle in 308 win for deer hunting. I was aware of the complaints about the strong hammer spring and trigger pull issue. And read on another forum as to the fix. I have a Grainger account and tried to order the spring. The sales rep told me the part# was no longer available. I took the smaller inner spring out and that helped but I know it could be better. I'm hoping that because the springs came in a bag of 10, that somebody has 9 springs left and is willing to sell me one of them. I have done some research and using the specs off the Grainger site have come come up with a very close match but not the same spring. Can anyone help ?

I've got a couple of springs left over from modding three single-shots - send me a PM with your address and I'll send you one.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I see that and I really do appreciate the help. I'll figure this thing out. I'm in a couple other forums and the format looks similar but I have never sent a PM. But thanks again for the help. I am mounting a scope and i used the ambidextrous hammer extender and it doesn't leave enough tab sticking out to get a good thumb bite on it. I bought a one piece base ring that was made for the Handy rifle. Good product but as much as I hate to raise the scope any higher than necessary. I have to get it up away from the extension enough. I returned the mount and ordered the rail so I can use high bases and see how that works. How has everyone been mounting scopes on these rifles ? The spring mod will help reduce the force needed to cock it but it's very important to me to get a good thumb hold on that hammer. need to be able to lower it safely too.

Here is what I use maybe this will help. I had the quick disconnect rings already so I figured why not use them.

We might mount a scope on one of ours and I think we'll try the Talley one-piece mount that Henry sells for single-shots - priced about $40.

I put a scope on mine just to try out. Once I find a load I like I may well take it off for a red dot. Just like the quickness of the red dot not to mention its lighter. I realize that the scope has its place on certain calibers and for hunting. For me my 357 was never intended to hunt with only clay pigeon bustin on the dirt banks. Maybe an occasional swingin bowlin pin to.
