It will depend some on what scope you use (eye relief, ocular lens diameter, etc.), along with the base and ring heights. I have mounted a Leupold 2 1/2X ultralight scope on a 45-70 single shot, using a Warne 981M base, with Burris low Zee rings, and a Leupold FX II 6x on a .243 single shot, using the same base and Weaver Grand Slam Medium rings (which are the same height as Burris low) Both scopes have considerable eye relief, and, as fixed powers, the ocular lens assembly is slim - no variable adjustment collar - so they clear the hammer, using the Henry (now steel) spur. I'm about 5' 8", so may have the scope located a bit more to the rear than a taller person would. They work for me; I want the scope to be as low as I can get it. Others mileage may vary ;) .
