New SS 357, get it tomorrow!
Ive been searching for one of these for a while and a friend tipped me about one 2 hours south. I’m going to get it tomorrow. It has a nice piece of wood on it too. It probably will be a 357 maximum within a week.

What is the process to make it into a 'maximum '?

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

I have 2 choices, send it my gunsmith or try it myself. I have researched the process and it can be done with a finishing reamer, lots of oil and patience. It can be hand turned. Both of the ones I followed turned out great. I may chicken out though and send it to my gunsmith. Ill shoot it as is for a little while.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does it mean to make it into a "357 maximum"? What will be the benefit over it's current configuration?Brother_Love wrote: It probably will be a 357 maximum within a week.

Even after the explanation about the "finishing reamer and lots of oil," I'm still not clear about what 'smithing is about to take place, no matter who does it. Please elaborate if you get a chance.CT_Shooter wrote:Please forgive my ignorance, but what does it mean to make it into a "357 maximum"? Regardless of whether it ends up being "Maxed Out" or not, that's some beautiful furniture!
Congrats in advance and keep us posted on your first impressions, the mystery mods and how it all turns out!

I’m going to let my gunsmith do it. He is simply going to rechamber it for357 maximum. It will give me a little more power plus I just want one. Thanks

Thanks for the clarification. Not familiar with that load, but a quick search on AmmoSeek shows that round to be fairly rare and spendy. Do you reload for it?Brother_Love wrote:I’m going to let my gunsmith do it. He is simply going to rechamber it for357 maximum. It will give me a little more power plus I just want one. Thanks
It may or may not matter to you, but I'd guess that kind of modification will void your warranty. Others may prove me wrong (they'll chime in if so).
