Finally got to look one of these over at the LGS and ended up taking it home.
The pros:
-It has that typical Henry high quality fit and finish.
-The stock and forearm are also typical Henry beautiful American walnut - flawless checkering.
-I like how the gun balances - just aft of the barrel pivot pin. It shoulders easily with a good cheek weld using the iron sights.
-The rear sight can fold down for a scope, and it has a screw adjustment for windage - don't need for a punch. Clever little rear iron sight.
-It is really easy to break the gun down into two pieces for cleaning by removing the pivot pin(no tools needed) to clean the barrel from the breech end.
-It has a nice recoil pad to take up some of that 44Mag push.
The cons:
-The rebounding hammer has a really stiff spring making it hard to cock. I really wish Henry had used a traditional half-cock trigger system. Definitely an opening here for the aftermarket. In the end the pros outweighed the cons - it is hard to pass up a rifle of this quality and workmanship for $379 - you just can't go wrong.

Congrats on Picking up a really nice rifle. The wood looks really good in your pics. That's exactly how I feel about 'em, too. A Hammer extender (spur) helps with that strong spring, I like the Carlson's version I've ordered from Henry.

Love the wood, too. Very nice. Can't wait to hear how it shoots.

A definite "thumbs up" on the wood you got on your .44Mag, tractortad. It really looks great, and your pics are excellent. A couple of weeks ago I handled a single-shot .223 at my LGS, and the wood was beautiful on that rifle also. Henry knows and uses good MO wood for sure! Glad your pros won, and sure hope you enjoy the Henry a lot.

Of course, my new Big Boy .357 Carbine's wood has all other furniture beat hands down!!!
That's my "peacock" statement for the day.

Looks Good Tad. I as well like the wood. I have been eyeing these because I would like to have one I think. I was hoping one would come in 357 but Im not sure when Henry will add more calibers to there line. So I have been looking at the 223 and the 44. Just haven't been able to decide which one to get. Al

I agree with you with a single-shot in 357 - I think that would sell better than any of the present calibers. We went with 44 because it's safer to shoot pistol calibers on our homemade range (with steel targets).

A single-shot Henry .357 magnum would be the a top-choice rifle for me. It would also be most helpful since I already have .357 ammo in my stock, and shoot it regularly.

What kind of production adjustment do you think Henry would need to do to build a .357 single-shot? How difficult is it really to add another caliber? Always been curious about that.

Got to say it again. Great pictures of that new .44 Magnum with the beautiful wood. Seems like a person could not have selected a nicer-looking rifle from what you showed us.

My range partner and I just saw a .223/5.56 & .308 version. Beautiful rifles. Both of us really want one. I would prefer .44 but he prefers .223. However, the .223 be a great rifle for my uses. I was really impressed by it. We might just pick up two in .223 so we can compete with each other on a level playing field

Great looking rifle for sure. As much as I hate to admit it, the wood on that Henry looks every bit as good as that on my Ruger #1 in .44 mag. Single shot .44 mags make great woods rifles for deer, even with the same length barrel they are inherently shorter than bolt or lever actions so they handle like a dream in the thick stuff. Thanks for the pics and a great write up.

Hey Tad have you shot the 44 much. I just ordered one in 357. It should be here Wednesday. I have also seen on another forum where a guy is selling hammer springs to replace the heavy on that comes in the gun. He claims replacement is super easy. Im not much of a gunsmith and havent seen any videos on Youtube yet on disassembly but non the less Im anxious to get mine and shoot it. Al
