Single shot in 327 federal magnum

Post by GaHenryFan » Wed Feb 07, 2018 8:45 am

For the last few years, I've been pining for a lightweight "rook rifle." The idea of a reloadable 22lr on steroids fascinates me. A sub 100gr projectile running 800 to 900 fps seems like an ideal combination. Who besides me would love to see Henry release a single shot in 327 federal magnum?

I dont own a 327 but there are alot of people that do. I think it would be a very big seller along with several other pistol calibers. Since there arent many single shots out there to chose from I think this line for Henry will sell well. I personally would like to see one in a 38-55 and a 357. Im thinking the 357 will come before the 38-55. I see another company has one out at a higher price but that company is not even close to the customer service as Henry is. Not to mention there not made in America. Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I love my 357 BBS, and I know Henry already makes a 327 version, but that doesn't interest me for some reason. I have a Yildiz single shot 410 that is slim, and light as a feather. My yearning is for a rifle along these same lines. I've done enough research to know there are plenty of others out there looking for the same thing. I think you're right about it being a good seller.

You'd think that any chambering Henry offers could be made available in the Single Shot Line. After all, other than the extractor being fit to the head size of the cartridge, there's no mechanism to build, or feed issues to resolve, with a single shot. All it'll take is demand for some additional cartridges, along with their getting caught up on orders for the current listings. I'm starting to see a few on Gunbroker last for a while - especially the .308 priced at $649.00  . On the other hand, a .243 with no reserve is up to $281.03 with 4+ days to go. That one will be interesting to watch.

Im' a fan of the 327, but the cartridge could use more friends. Was surprised, but delighted, then, when Henry went with the 327 in a lever gun. Thank-you, Henry.

Right now, I do shoot the 327 in a single shot, namely with a custom made barrel in my Contender pistol, but I could also go the custom route to have a rifle barrel made in 327, too. That way I could shoot a 327 as a light Contender carbine, such as this one.

Doesn't get much lighter than a Contender carbine rig. Even with a scope, weight is still under 6 pounds. This is an expensive way to go to get a 327 single shot, though. A Henry single shot in 327 would be at least half the price. Worth a try to request a 327 single shot from Henry. Best of luck.

I've already sent them a request.

I love your rig, but half the price would certainly be desirable. :)

I got a response from Henry. Seems they are looking at other pistol calibers, but not the 327 at this time.

Henry needs to get its custom shop up and running. Think of all the requests they could fill ;) .

I really want a .327 Federal Mag rifle but I think even the BBS carbine is too darned heavy.... I sent in a product request.

Light weight barrel.
Skinner Black Gold peep
Appropriate Skinner ramp front sight

They could put a more tapered barrel on it, or flute it, or shorten it four inches and thread the muzzle. The .327 doesn't need over 18” anyway. Just make it light.

Take my money!

Edit..... they need to develop light barrels as an option, so when they start chambering these in rimfire calibers they will be more attractive to buyers. I have had four Contenders over the years, and loved them, especially that pretty .223 Carbine, but it got so I couldn’t easily open the action, and I sold them off. Henry will never get the SS guns to be featherweight like my 4.2 lb 10/22, but they could improve them significantly with a diet.

While I never had any interest in a .327 in any of its handgun offerings it would no doubt shine in a SS rifle.
It's ballistics are pretty impressive and in a rifle would be even better.
It would no doubt appeal to handloaders mostly as it appears ammo availability is questionable with it due to weaker than expected popularity as a handgun round.
Kind of the same with the 25-35 Winchester. An excellent round (and in some ways superior to the 30-30) and it too would be another good offering in a SS but again Ammo availability is the issue.
