Pietta .45 Colt

Post by Rifletom » Fri Sep 11, 2020 9:37 pm

Three of us ventured out to the desert this morning to finally shoot. Temps weren't bad at all. Kind of surprising there.
Ok. That Pietta was a dream to shoot! Took about five shots to learn the sights, then, oh yeah. 8.0gr Unique/250gr rnfp and off to the races. Stout, but, not harsh at all. Smooth action, no complaints. Put the .45 acp cylinder in and shot my usual loads: either 5.4gr Universal or 5.5gr BE-86. Both with 230 LRN. Oot of a revolver, those rounds get down range lickety split! No gas operation to rob a bit of poop. Very impressed. Super happy with this gun. We were sighting in a Henry LR .308 also. Fine shooting rifle there. It was a good day in the desert. Finally!

Congrats. I figured you'd like that 45 six shooter.

When I've shot my 45 Ruger convertible, I, too, noticed quite a difference in the shooting characteristics of the 45 Colt and the 45 ACP. Not that the 45 ACP had more recoil, but it was definitely more snappy, compared to the heavier thud of the 45 Colt.

NCG, that is exactly how it appeared to me. The power the acp seemed to have in a revolver surprised me a bit. Still, do like that Colt round tho.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Al, no paper punching for me this time out, just getting a feel for the gun. Pretty easy to hit a can or dirt clod at 20 yards out after learning the sighting. This gun will be seeing a fair share of .45acp loads also. Neat SA gun. Paper targets when the mountain range re- opens.

I knew you would like the 45 acp loads on that. Try some semi wadcutters they really shoot good. Xtreme bullets has plated semi wadcutters I have some of those in mine.
