A little sight seeing with Ruger Mini 14.......

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Aug 30, 2020 4:53 pm

Excellent day to zero in the new EOTech sight on my Mini 14.

2nd picture is of the first shot as mounted, which is marked #1 and then the adjustments that followed...2,3,4,and 5.
Distance was 25 yds. firing from standing position. Ammo was Federal 62 gr. Green Tipped 5.56

Next picture was four shots from 25 yds. kneeling position.

Final picture was same 25 yd. kneeling target but from 50 yd. kneeling position. With target position towards the sun it made seeing the red zone
difficult as it appeared darker. First shots were Left and high. When I could see target area better a clouds came over sun you can see a 2 hole ragged shot in the Red and another to lower right. Had the green recticle brightness dialed down so not to over ride the red zone of target or what I could see of it. The 55 gr. Federal FMJ ammo shot just as well.
No brass ejection issues were noted with new sight mount in place over the action/ejection port.

Little Mini is a nice shooter!

Nice, very nice. I have and older Mini 14 made in the early 80's. They are light, handle easy and fun to shoot. But with mine once the barrel heats up, there is no such thing as a group over 50 yds. It looks more like spray and pray.

Hey thanks for replying! Basically I'm setting up the Mini 14 for defense use and it doesn't have to shoot nice real tight groups from 50 yds.
I adjusted the sight from 25 yds. and it seems to do well out to 50. Just want a setup where I can easily get on a target while also seeing the area around it. Wanted a sight that will work everytime it's turned on and stays in zero. EOTech is expensive but they do work as my first one on my HiPoint is 9 yrs old and still works fine. They have a 10 yr. warranty
You never know in the current climate....could be a hotter than normal November!

I agree the EOTech is a great choice. The big field of view is such a plus on a close range defensive weapon. I put a red dot on my AR and in hindsight an EOTech would have been the way to go.
