X Model range report

Post by Scottso67 » Thu Aug 06, 2020 1:33 pm

Took the new X Model 357 to the range today in hopes of setting a new red dot sight. Not much luck in the sighting dept. Not sure if it's the sight or me. Even tried first with laser to get me on paper but still wouldn't line up on target. Got fed up and used the stock fiber optics and achieved much better results. Smooth, Smooth and smooth. Love this action. I started with 357 ammo and at the end squeezed off some 38s. Big difference in ammo. I had zero jam ups with the 357 but a few with the 38s. They are a bit more on the quiet side compared to the 357. All in all a decent day with a planned return to set this sight up again. Stay safe !!

Thanks for the report, I haven’t shot my BBX .44 yet. Did you bore sight the red dot? Did you connect a laser to the rail or did you do something else? It is easy at home, just remove the bolt, set the rifle steady while aiming it against a bright distant object using the BORE (squint down the tube), then adjust the red dot so it aligns with that object, A distant light works very well if it is dark out. Of course you could also buy a official bore sighting tool but it isn’t needed if the bore diameter is large enough to see through.

Were you able to see the rear iron sight over the rail? I have a low Ranger Point rail and can just barely see the factory sights.

These X guns are really hard to photograph, you usually end up with a silhouette and no detail. I haven’t quite figured out the best method yet, they seem to suck in all light.

Thanks John,

I did use a bore laser but really was no help. I am returning it today and replacing it. It really seemed off. Could be I just had a defect. I could not see the sight with the rail on. I removed the rail to continue shooting. I will report back. Stay safe

I too just sighted in a 357 Henry and had the same problem as you. After mounting my scope I forgot to bore sight it. I was aware of this when I got to the range but “hoped” that since I was shooting at 50 yards I would at least be on paper. No such luck! As John mentioned I simply removed the lever and then the bolt and was able to do the ole’ manual bore sight first centering the bore on my target and then dialing in the scope to match. I was 12+ inches high and 6+ inches left as mounted. Nice to have a big old fat bore like .357 to do this type of bore sighting. :D

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I returned this one and now waiting on it's replacement. It is a Feyachi RDS-25 Red Dot Sight 4 MOA. I'm not really sure if this is what I want but it was cheap enough to "try out" and return if not wanted.

If the new junk clone sight still doesn’t work, get a Bushnell, these are generally well regarded in the Cheap As Heck category. I have two, one on a 10/22 and one on a SU-16C, both for strictly short range plinking.

https://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Trophy ... 66&sr=8-11

DON’T buy at the current price. Use this site to track Amazon prices and alert you when it drops. I bought both of mine for well under $50 each.

Thanks John,

If I decide to keep one I will look into this upgrade. Thanks for the recommendation.
