I received my Henry BBS steel back Wed with a new barrel. I used my bore scope and it looked great. There wasn't any chatter in it that filled the original barrel. The crown though blued looked smooth and even under my 8x loop. was full of hope and anticipation, then I took iot to the range yesterday. Started at the 50yd range to start getting it sighted in for Sundays silhouette match and it shot all over the place. I shot 3 different loads including a factory load. No groups just patterns, thought I was having a bad day then I shot the 30-30 and the Frontier, both gave me 1" groups.
This morning I tried again seeing if I could sort things out at the 25yd range. It was early, overcast and no wind, perfect conditions. Did a few sight in shots then fired a three shot group of Remington 158gr jhp 3 shot 2" group. Then I fired a 5 shot group with my hand loads of 6.9grn of CFE Pistol and the group was a little over an inch. At 25yds I wasn't over impressed but I thought I was getting some where. Then I went to the 50yd range.
I will let the picks tell the story.
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Re: Good Range Day
I've looked at this post a couple times waiting for an answer of sorts. But, how about a different powder? But then, the factory ammo isn't doing any better. A bit stumped here. Sure hope it isn't the new barrel.
