Range Report: it’s been closed for 72 days

Post by Sir Henry » Sat May 23, 2020 12:06 pm

The range I go to has been closed for 72 days with no opening date in sight. LEO rents the range for training and the privately owned range board said if members couldn’t use it then neither could LEO.

The range has the LEO support in this and they are pressing the governor to open outdoor ranges if they could meet social distancing requirements of any other business.

In the meantime I’m plinking in the backyard with my B.B. gun.

Hoping our range gets to open the end of this month. I too am shooting my pellet rifle weather permitting.

If ya'll were 3000 miles closer I'd say come on over. But I say it anyway...come on over!
I'm not shooting today but in the shop making parts for my target setup. Also letting it dry out down there from all the rain this past week.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Gene, I don’t know if this will help but this is the action taken by the Spokane Rifle Club to reopen. SRC was able to do this even before Spokane County got to Phase II status. Good luck. :(

Hope they get you guys back on track soon. Alberta is relaxing most of the "rules" now for everything.

Our club range never closed up but travel from home to the range was non-essential travel. We are back to shooting there now and it is a good thing to be able to go shoot again. My shooting friend and I shot there Thursday and Friday for 5+ hours and were the only shooters there. I took 5 rifles Thursday and 4 different ones Friday. Some were rifles I had made scope swaps on during the stay home days. The biggest change was going to the fixed 12X Leupold Silhouette on one of my CZ Grand Finales. Other changes were from fixed 4X Leupolds to 2-7 Leuplds and 3-9 Leupolds that were center fire scopes and I changed the parallax to 55 yds to cover the yardage most shot with our rim fires. Still nice and clear out to over 120 yds. The 12X Leupold is a great target scope for me with my good eye sight but my friend likes 24-30 power on his target shooting rifles. I can't use the high powered rifle scopes as they are not clear as my lower powered scopes especially my fixed power over the variable models. I bettered my own personal record on the 1/4" spinner that was 15 straight hits when it was set up with the Burris HBR fixed 6X scope. Thursday I had 24 consecutive hits on the 1/4" :D and missed the 25th :( but then hit the next 5 to finish the 30 rounds that was in that box of SK+ ammo when we started to shoot the 1/4". Shooting was done at 50 Yds. The Grand Finale was strutting it's stuff Thursday. My friend went 17 straight hits with his custom Falcon action, custom barreled target rifle. My friend said it will probably be a while before we beat the 24 in a row. I seriously doubt I will ever beat it. He will beat it with one of his custom 15+ lb target rifles that ride the bags far better than sporter barrel rifles. I feel one day this year he will go into the 40's on consecutive hits with his Falcon or the Remington custom built 40X.. We had perfect wind free days two days in a row to shoot. That is rare for here. The really light drizzle rain days with cloud cover seems the best days to shoot and usually are light on winds or none at all and free of other shooters. I hope all members soon have their ranges back open to shooting so they can shoot and post on how things went with their shooting. I like reading about members at the range doing what we like to do best. ;) :D

I agree, our range is deserted if there's even a slight chance of drizzle. Plus the wind here keeps lots away. I shoot often on those days.
