Sweet. A friend of the wife came over, and shared that she had gone to a local gun show near Appomattox recently, and bought herself a present. A Big Boy 357 Carbine. I got mine out of the safe to show her the Skinner Sights, and was disappointed to discover I still have not recovered enough from my shoulder surgery to properly mount the rifle. Guess there is no point in adding that 45-70 to my collection this summer as planned until I get that range of motion back.

What? Oh sure, she loved the Skinner sights, and plans to order some.

I wouldn't push my luck on the shoulder surgery. I had rotator cuff surgery on mine a couple of yrs. ago. It healed up nicely, but took about a year to completely heal. I'll have to admit I was a bit edgy about shooting my 45/70 for the first time, but wasn't a problem.
Hang in there, you'll get there.

I went back to the woods today & did some more shooting. The Federal Fusion 300gr. HP, still shoots all over the map, same as before. My reloads performed well as the last time. I'm just going to shoot up the Federals & use the brass.
If it shoots that bad at 25yds, you couldn't hit the side of a barn, standing on the inside, 100yds away.

Kinda funny how that works. Shoots one load really well and the next one it looks like it was shot by a shotgun.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Yes it is. Had this been at 100 yds, it wouldn't be so surprising. I went thru the same routine, distance, etc. just to confirm. Proof is in the pudding, as they say. We all know, what works in one gun, won't necessarily in another.
Good new is, the reloads worked well. I've got my hunting load.

Its fun playing with loads to see what works. Took me a while in the All Weather but I found a couple. One was with the bullet JEBar uses.

Back when I had a good place to shoot, I worked up loads a lot with a particular rifle, 'til I got it right. Now I have to drive 5mi. to a woods to shoot, 25yds at best. Really thick. Just doesn't pay to do it. I got lucky the first load I tried with the 45/70. Should've went out & bought a lottery ticket I guess. Ahhh, for the good ole days.

Yeah Grunt, I'd stay with that handload of yours. Very nice group there. Good to hear you're feeling better.

Thanks, Tom. I'm feeling much better. Allergies are a royal pain.

I wish 5 miles was all I had to drive. Its 25 miles one way for me to get to the grasslands to shoot. Im not complaining at all. At least I have a place to go and shoot now while all this is going on with what we have to deal with.
