Range test of .45 Colt 325gr. "Slammers"
Did this little test 2 yrs. ago mainly for my Ruger Alaskan as a very easy shooting but effective load. Bullet was Missouri Bullets coated Slammer.
Yes they could be ramped up a lot for the beefy Alaskan!
I think that 2 liter had lost some of it's pressure!

325 grs. Yep I say it's a Slammer.
Wonder what you would get out of a 20" barrel?

The COL was 1.660 and if your rifle will run with that length and depending on bullet stability might be an interesting load!
In that video it took me a while to get some good readings due to changing sunlight conditions hence no video of tests.
I've had some leading issues with the Alaskan and it's due to the larger cylinder chamber throat of .455 dia. allowing hot gas to bleed around the bullet. Shoots fine especially with plated or jacketed bullets.
Talking with Penn Bullets and he has seen that problem with other revolvers with the large throats and he has some .454 bullets for me to try.
The word is that Ruger may have made the .454 Casull throats large to help bleed off some pressure with hot Casull 454 loads.
I bought the Alaskan in 454/45 Colt for a beefy short barrel DA revolver that could handle any .45 Colt +P/Ruger loads with ease.
The large grip soaks up the recoil and it is a fine shooter.

No .45 Colt Henry and my 1873 Winny might not like that load.
I do have the Rossi Ranch Hand in .45 Colt but forget if I had tried to cycle one thru it.

Im not sure that would work in the Henry. When one gets over that 1.6 in a Henry its a crap shoot if they will work or not.

Just checked and the Slammer will cycle thru my Rossi R92/Ranch Hand. Will make for a handy little sledge hammer!
9 inch barrel on this one!
