Went down to the barn today.
Well that's where I do some shooting, and hunting season is right around the corner. I have decided that this season I'm only hunting with rifles I have never taken deer with.
Sounds crazy right? Most of these I have only owned for a couple years. With exception to the Higgins, the deer are just scared to death of it, or must be.
As I have never seen a deer while totin it, sware to God.
So I just bring it to check zero, not bad, little high at 50, be reeeeal close at around 100.
Here's the group.
Left to right
444P, 45 colt Cowboy, 35 Rem. (JC Higgins), 30-30 Western Field, another store brand Marlin, and last 30-30 Texan SRC.
I know not a blame Henry in the bunch, well the 41 BBSis going but it is dialed in.
YEAH the dang pic is side wise.
So start at the bottom. I shot this while I was waiting on those 30-30's to cool.
Half one way and the other half the opposite.
Not the pistol, it's just holding the paper.
Trying out a couple loads for these 30-30's.
The Western Field, two different powders, and two different bullets, both 170, Sierra pro hunters, and Speer hot cor. Then some factory Federal 150's.
Then we get to the ole SRC it needs just a tab bit taller front sight because no matter what I shoot through it, it hits high, at 50, and as you can see really high with the factory150's. I only shot at 50 just seeing where some loads were at.
I did shoot the other two, but the P I need some more practice with that peep.
The Cowboy was just plinking in between the others.
Checking the bullets I got Friday, and yeah I think it was clovishound, they did have an odd smell but outside it was just a hint . they shot well though.
I'll drag those two Henrys out next time.

I did, but I thought one of those one might stand out.
It does seem though that the Sierra group better than the Speer. In the WF I can tell because of the scope.
Earlier sorry no pic, I did 5 shot groups with a BL-C 2 load and it was noticable.
Which one should I tweak on first.
Good/bad thing three different powders all with similar results.
But a good thing to know.

all of your targets look good, very good indeed .... the only thing in common between them was the finger on the trigger .... there's no doubt in my mind that commonality played a major part

Quite the collection of some good deer rifles! Looks like you have them dialed in for the dinner plate.
Now if you could only have one nice deer rifle out the group....which would it be?

Re: Went down to the barn today.
Ah, the 35 of course.
I have a real soft spot for the 35's, have 3.
If Henry were to build one in Blued or CCH with an octagon barrel.
Well then I'd have 4.

Randy nice job for sure. This ammo you were shooting in all of them is ammo you have reloaded right?
