The other 40

Post by deano5150 » Sat Nov 02, 2019 8:54 pm

I took the BBSC 357 back to the range today. Last Saturday I went and was only able to fire 10 rounds because there was someone hunting on the property. Fortunately, I had the place to myself today.

I started out with two 5 round groups at 35 yards using my usual ammo (Monarch/PPU 158gr SJHP). On my previous trip, I was hitting just a touch to the left

so I moved the Skinner peep a tiny bit to the right. Here are the results.

That adjustment put me just a bit to the right so I adjusted back to the left (such a small amount I wasn’t even sure the sight moved) and..... viola!

I think my windage is as close as I can get it. I’m pretty happy with the results.

Someone requested I shoot a little farther so I stretched out to 50 yards. I landed my first five shots just a tiny bit high in a two and a three shot group. I must say I was very happy with that!

My next five round group was a mixed bag. I tried a six o’clock hold to bring the POI down a bit (I was “splitting the target” before by covering the bottom half of it). That brought my POI down too low so I went back to splitting the target and got two bullseyes.

The third string of five shots was about the same with a high left flyer. I’m going to use “eye fatigue” as an excuse.

The forth string of five was also a bit of a mixed bag but I’m still very happy with the results. I think the windage is dialed in pretty well.

All in all it was a fun range day!

well executed, well reported .... enjoyed following the changes corresponding to your adjustments .... I believe you will continue to be pleased with your 357 when you get a chance to fire it at 75 and 100 yards

Thanks, JEBar! 75 and 100 are next on the agenda. And I’m lovin’ my rifle!

Isn't that rifle just a joy to shoot? I feel better after a round with mine. Even if I don't shoot well. Looks like you are dialing in well. Keep it up. BBSC357 Rocks!

with open sights our BBS 357 has proven that it is fully capable of tight groups at longer ranges than I can I'm capable of shooting it ... we ended up mounting a scope on ours and it does really well

Great shooting deano looks like you have it dialed in for sure. Are you using the stock aperture in the skinner sight

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Great shooting. I'm looking forward to seeing your report on 75 and 100 yards.

I love my 357 carbine, and I have Skinners as well. I keep reading these range reports and can't wait to get back out and shoot. Soon as the shoulder heals enough... :D ... Even if it's snowing. :P

Yes, sir. It seems to be working well for me. I tried a smaller one but it was harder to see the target.
