Hey Mark, down at the barn making noise.
Left handed right eye closed, and
Right handed left eye closed. ;)
4 shots each way.

I have uncorrected 66 yr old eyes that I was born with. When I first instructed to shoot, I was taught to close my left eye. Could not hit the broadside of the barn. A few years later, I taught myself with the help of NRA's book of shooting of what was wrong. The old trick of pointing your finger with one eye then the other eye. I found out that I was left eye dominate. That helped explain why I kick a football, shoot a bow left handed. I do everything else right handed. I have to close my right eye to shoot. But on the other hand, I have to shoot my handguns cross-eyed, right hand and left-eyed. This has worked well with me over the years. I remember a couple of shots over my shoulder and behind me that I took with shotgun and bow.
I hope that I haven't muddied the waters too much.

I have worn a "reading lens" contact for over 20 years. It is an obvious demonstration of the brain picking the "best" image. I have tried the 2 eye approach for shotgunning, and it works. I have yet to be comfortable shooting my rifle or pistol. It is something that I will keep trying.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Thanks Mark, and I did, and I learned that I need a lower set of scope rings for the one rifle.

Thanks for the responses. It is sounding like a personal preference issue and what works best for an individual, given the circumstance.
Interesting though, that Marine said the were taught one eye closed in the Corps.
All responses have made sense to me. Maybe there is no right or wrong on this one?
Yup, gave us eye patches during range week at Parris Island in the late 70s.
We kept it stored with our shooting jackets... :D
Funny, some of them country boys could sho nuff shoot.

There are a number of advantages to shooting both eyes open.
Obviously you get a much wider field of view and much better depth perception. In a defensive situation both things might just be what keep you alive.
The other is eye fatigue, with one eye closed the pupil in the other will dilate and actually be receiving more light than needed. For a sniper who might be looking through a scope for hours at a time it would be a massive benefit to keep both eyes open.
The down side is most people run into parallax issues with both eyes open. The solution for most competition shooter is to use glasses with a opaque blinder over the non shooting eye. They stop the non shooting eye from focusing on anything but allow it to be kept open reducing eye fatigue.
