and from what I have read/heard the early ones had the stainless rear sight and no insert in front sight.
This is correct and they are terrible to shoot with due to reflection and many got junked and swapped for blue.
Mine came with the SS rear and I still have it.
Someone most likely modded the front on yours. I don't think S & W started to factory inset the front sights until the 80's.

CT, why the advice not to load/shoot 130 FMJ in .357 cases from your BB rifle? Curious. Great looking Colt you have there and great shooting. That's a good load. Enjoy. 4.7gr Unique is the cat's meow in .38's. Excellent load.

Kinda wondering myself.
Not much different than shooting 125 grain jacketed bullets in .357 cases.

One of our members reported this shortly after I had bought a good supply and was shooting them as .357s in my BBB. I had not heard that before, so I called Henry CS to ask for myself.
