I second Forty's idea with the Hornady ammo it shoots great out of my AW 45-70

Anyone know if the Skinner Express will fit on this rifle?

looking forward to hearing how well the Skinner front sight works out ... what was your impression of the rifle's recoil
I don't see the Single Shots listed on Skinner's website, but that doesn't mean they don't make them. A quick call to Rob would clear that up, and I'm sure many would like to know as well.

I looked for the thread a little but couldnt find it right off but someone here just put a Skinner on there single shot using the rear sight dovetail or a barrel mount sight with the Lo Pro in it. Like Evan says give them a call. Just found this on there site

Turns out my front bead is the shortest one Henry makes. Only thing to do is send gun in.
Henry does not 'make' sights - they use Marbles sights but regardless what did they expect to accomplish by having you send the gun in if they did not have a shorter front sight to install ?

Good to hear Skinner is helping you out however.

With the front sight dovetailed into the barrel, it shouldn't be hard to change it out. My 45-70 shot OK with factory 300 grain rounds at 50 yards, but I never did "dial it in" since I intended to add a scope. For hunting I like the Hornady 250 grain Monoflex (copper) ammo, for its lower recoil and slightly flatter trajectory, but cheap it's not. It works, though ;) . And it shoots to about the same point of aim at 50 yards as the 300 grain loads.

On another point, I had the same sight adjustment issue with my early model ghost ring peep H009 (30-30); Henry sent me a replacement XS rear sight, since that version's front sight is nonadjustable in the barrel band, which fixed it. I still might send that assembly to Skinner, to convert it to a dovetail, though, since I think I'd like a bead better than the post. But I'll give it a try, first.
