July 4th, with my shooting buddy at a range in the Shasta woods. Here I was able to finally get to shoot my LR with the scope mounted along with some other firearms. My buddy was there with his new over/under 20ga Beretta, my son with his AR and his friend with a custom built bolt action 6.5 Creedmoor.
Good late morning/early afternoon of shooting. Great fun time for all of us!
Loved shooting the 20ga Beretta. My buddy had a new clay launcher, too. I did decent. Solid hits and nicks, no outright misses. I could get into this.
Did not much care for shooting the Creedmoor. Way too loud, even with hearing protection. Quite a bit of recoil.
Back to topic. Got the scope dialed in on my LR. Leupold 3.5-10x40. Shot from my buddies Caldwell Lead Sled. 50 yd result show what the Henry LR is capable of, but that's not me. There is a little bit of mechanical slop in the sled so 100yd results are a bit spread out. Shooting with the sled gives me a goal for developing my shooting skill without the sled.

Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Re: Long Ranger .223/5.56 Report
Im sure you could out do that sled at 100 yards. That 223 is capable of that with a human behind the butt.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Thanks. I wasn't too impressed with that sled. Mechanical part fit was rickety. Took a lot of fiddling with it between shots to get back on POA. A lot of settling on adjusting to get POA to being close enough. Didn't really hurt the grouping at 50 yds, but POIs at 100 got more spread. The sled served its purpose; demonstrate the accuracy of the Henry LR and get the scope zeroed at 50yds. Might be smidgen high and left, but close enough. Self challenge to practice and get that good at 50yds. I'm sure I can already out do the sled at 100. That's for another day.
I am impressed with the LR and the .223/5.56 ammo. I was also shooting at golf ball sized cinder chunks and tufts of grass out to 250 yds. The bullet trajectory is really flat at least out to that distance.

I forgot to include that my buddy also brought along his 1970 Winchester Model 94 .30-30. Recoil on that one hurts even with a padded butt plate. Its a side gate. That and the mag tube spring are very stiff. Hard to press the gate open and insert ammo. If it were mine I'd get a lighter gate spring, take a few coils out of the mag tube spring and file the inside of the lip of the gate opening so that ammo could be loaded/inserted smoother.
