One for BigAl52

Post by bandit1250 » Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:49 am

BigAl52 suggested I shoot straight pins after I shot the matches. I couldn't find my wife's stash of pins and all I could find was some 16 ga. linoleum nails which are a little bigger but still pretty small to see at 33 yds. Had to color the head with a black sharpie pen. I put four nails in a paper plate and used the top nail for a sighter. Hit it first shot. Then went down to the right and hit it and the center one shot each. Then I blew it on the left one and just nicked the bottom edge of it and needed the second shot to hit it. :( I don't feel to bad needing the second shot on the last nail. I guess it's not to bad for a 70 year old geezer. ;) :D I must say I actually surprised myself. You can see the lead spray from the nails getting hit. I put one of the nails upper left to show size. Rifle was my CZ Grand Finale with the 6X Burris HBR scope with a very fine duplex reticle and using RWS Target ammo. This rifle after some tuning I did to it just may be the most consistently accurate 22 I own and I have some good shooters it has to beat. I believe the German made ammo is part of the fine accuracy with it also. Image

Man, it just keeps getting better and better!

Gonna have to consider a whole new category of expertise in your honor: "Geezer-Skills"!

Great shooting, Bandit, thanks for sharing!

Wow! My eyes get strained just working with small bullseye targets. Very impressive, bandit.

Brother I think you're right about the RWS stuff. I first tried it 20 some years ago and keep coming back to it for a number of different guns and I've tried a bunch of different things. Good shootin. BTW the CZ rimfires ain't junk either. ;)

Bandit, just out of curiosity, have you tried that CZ at long range yet from the bench? Benchrest shooting 22RF at 200 yards has become a big thing in some places. I've been working at it for a while just because it's fun. When you tell people you shoot a 22 at 200 yards most look at you like you're stupid. Right now I'm working with a Remington 597 (that most think isn't possible) that in only Remington on some parts on the outside. All the innards are different stuff. Shooting the way you do you might surprise yourself as to what you can do out there. The 6-24x50 scope helps.

I did some shooting at 200 yds. in Montana on ground squirrels. Had a fair amount of hits after seeing where you hit and walked the bullet in to where I had quite a few hits at that distance and a few even a little farther. Wind is the killer with scoring with the 22 way out. Even though they are just a notch above a rat I didn't like the crawl offs back to the hole and decided to stick with the 222 and 223 cartridges for the long range shooting which were far better not having any of them crawl off. Usually there wasn't enough left to crawl away. A couple of my friends that made trips out there with me didn't want to take a 22. After seeing what a 22 could be capable of they said they had a lot more respect for a 22 rim fire after those trips and were so glad they took their 22 along. I shot a Sako P94S varmint and a Remington 541-S. The 541-S was far better for walking around shooting the squirrels off hand where the shots were mostly normal 22 distance to some over a 100 yds. Last time out I shot just short of three bricks of ammo in 2 1/2 days in the squirrel fields and the clear cuts in NW Montana. Really improved my off hand shooting in the fall on tree squirrels.
