As noted in the exchange with Ojai, the handling of the single shot isn't exactly conducive to repeated high-accuracy placement, unless there's a sturdy sled to take some of the variability out of the process(es).
That said, on the 100 yd target above, the shots that landed high were the first ones, as I was anticipating some drop. I was checking through my spotting scope every 2-3 shots, and ended up with the smaller, lower cluster. I couldn't number them for you beyond that, but this very basic ammo was pretty zippy!
What a great varmint caliber.

Shooting groups on paper is a challenge when the human is the one holding the gun. In a sled or some sort of a rest where there isn't on of us humans involved is different. I know for me there are good days and then there are all the other days. Sometimes it almost takes some practice rounds to get into the rhythm of shooting the groups. I know there's times when I have duplicated loading test rounds just for that reason. I've also shot loads that I have loaded over again and shot again wondering if the human had something to do with the group size.

I'm not sure how much a lead sled will help your groups.
Have to take it out, reload, then put it back, and resight
Think you might be better off practicing a consistent sighting technique.
On something you don't have to readjust every shot.

A segway into the zippy .223.
On my shooting tree, definitely want to hit the paddles near the center. The zippy .223 will nibble off the edges otherwise. Oh and make sure to hit the paddles instead of the tree support. The zippy .223 will go right through it. Finally, the zippy .223 will nearly penetrate 1/2 inch soft steel plate.

Wow. What distance(s), Mags? Just 55 gr target stuff?

Yeah, you could very well be right, Ojai. Yesterday was just the first time out, so I'll give the bags another try. Lots of learning to do with this set-up, managing single shot/repositioning, etc.

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it, right?

Yup 55gr FMJ. Shooting tree results from 75 yds. The soft plate craters are from 50 yds. I've been mulling over switching to soft nose hunting rounds to lessen the damage to the shooting tree.
