The state has refurbished the local outdoor range
We have two outdoor ranges run by the state in the local area. They have always been junky and iffy. People bringing old CRTs and microwaves for targets, then leaving them. No RSO. They finally went through and completely overhauled them. Added a pistol range, cleaned everything up, and built new benches and roofs. They have everything you need except paper targets and guns. There are no fees. The only issue for me is a 45 minute one way drive.
My buddy and I went there for the first time yesterday. Had a great time. He was checking out his new 6.8 SPC and I was finally getting a chance to put the Weatherby 30-06 and the Savage .223 through their paces at 100 yds. The Weatherby was adequate accuracy (2 1/2" groups at 100 yds), perhaps playing around with different ammo will find a sweet spot. The Savage was much more accurate, although gusty winds kept me from getting the small groups I'm sure this gun is capable of.
My only regret was that I didn't bring Clovispup with us. It was probably the last comfortable for her day for outdoor activities this season. She really suffers with the heat. With highs in the 70s and a nice breeze and shade, it was very comfortable yesterday.

Very nice! Nearest to me are in the US Forest Service rock quarries in the Tillamook Forest, 45-60 minutes away. They get junked up, but TrashNoLand.org partner with the Forest Service on maintenance. http://www.trashnoland.org/ Due to the distance and first come/first served, iffy on getting to shoot sometimes, so do most of my shooting at home.

Well, they have an RSO on site whenever it's open now, so I don't think there will be a problem with folks trashing it.

That's a fine looking set-up! Here's hoping it stays that way for you and the others who know how to treat it.

That's a nice range. I wish we had ranges like that here state owned. Here there mostly private but anything state owned usually ends up trashed here. People just cant seem to take care of things.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
