As usual NCG extremely detailed and easy to follow. Never heard of opening up the channel but that certainly makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for sharing,

A bit troubling that it got all the way through Uberti's and Taylor's shops without anyone noticing.
Not particularly unusual.
When Uberti test fired it they are ensuring function and safety - not accuracy. They are more than likely shooting in a controlled environment that safely captures the bullet with no actual target.
With regard to Taylor's tuning it there is no need for them to fire it all - just a manual function check and possibly use a trigger pull guage to check trigger weight.

Might have bought it, but it was missing the brass back strap.
It was literally missing the backstrap?
This is an integral part of the grip assembly.
I am surprised it would even be displayed missing this part.

I was surprised by how they test fire. Of course, this is Heritage :?

No not literally missing. It had a steel back strap like in NCGs photos. I was looking for one with brass.

Got it! Heck if the price was right couldn't you have dealt with the blued gripframe ? (less to polish!)

Price was $429. I paid $459 for the Uberti .45 Colt with brass. Although I like shiny brass, the Uberti was already patina'd so left it as I got it.

Although I like shiny brass
So do I - and I am 'waffling' on whether to leave my BBB go to patina - or polish it back to its original luster.

I keep my .30-30 shiny, at least for now. That's the way it came, so I'll keep it that way as long as possible. When it gets to the point I have to buff too often then maybe I'll let it go. I think I'll have to come up with some sort of patch protector to stick to the side of the receiver where the ejected cases pivot coming out and slap the side of the receiver. Bunch of 'flea' tracks in the brass from it.
