May 5th 1860; The Buffalo Hunt
From last weekend, took my 1860 Henry to the range for some 45 Colt fun. Shooting 200 gr LRNFP's with 7gn of Universal. Really nice loads to shoot, lots of punch and no recoil. Open sights as usual.
First up, 25 yds off hand standing, 12 rounds, put some pressure on trying to put a round in each of the wagon wheel gaps...not too bad, missed a couple here and there. It's tough! Just put the rest of the rounds in the middle best I could. Don't know how Hickock45 does it off hand standing so well, I sure like shooting better from 1 knee which is coming up later... Next up is 50 yds from 1 knee, 12 rounds....much happier with this one...buffalo steaks for supper Ok, so the buffalo pics were taken by my wife at John Scott's Ranch just up the road. He does lots of movie work, and supplies livestock. Selleck's Monte Walsh was filmed at his ranch partly. The town of Antelope Junction is a set on his place. But they sure are photogenic and add so much to the old west atmosphere!
oh ya....the rifle!... Hope you enjoyed the little report, glad the forum is back up.
Shoot safe, RR

I noticed this too. The text editor isn't handling the 'end-of-line' very well/consistently.

Maybe he needs to try the 1 knee position for better accuracy....

Good shooting! Wish I could shoot like that off hand standing. Just too wobbly.

Great post RR. Nice pics. I know I'll probably never be able to do that well off hand, for that matter, even sitting or kneeling!

Loved the post, as usual, RR. As I've always said, your reports are a work of art. Fine shooting, too.
Still haven't got around to trying that kneeling position with a rifle, but it's on my list of things to try on one of these range trips. Shooting offhand the way you do on every range trip is the way to get good at it. Takes constant practice, as we both well know. Keep up the good work.
