Good point on shooting 45s in these Colts. Even if these Colts could take the hot stuff, they'd be miserable to shoot. They're just right, though, with the standard 45 Colt loads. Plenty powerful enough to know you're shooting more than 38s, but still very manageable and not abusive. That's what I love about the 45 Colt. Kind of special in its own way.

Now, I've done my share of shooting "Ruger only" 45 Colt loads in large frame Ruger's and Contenders and let me tell you, I'd honestly rather shoot standard 44 mag loads. Nice to have that 45 Colt +P "magnum" option, assuming you have the right gun and the need, but they turn the 45 Colt into one nasty to shoot beast. If I really needed that kind of power I think I'd go right to a 454 and be done with it and, by the way, you can shoot 45 Colts in a 454 and you can shoot both in the 460 S&W.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Hey, RR, we're preaching to the choir, here, on our love of the 45 Colt, but so what, right? By the way, if you don't hurry up and get that 45 Colt 1885, I'm going to have to beat you to it, maybe not with that gun, but maybe a 45 Colt in a different single shot, even if it means getting a custom 45 Colt rifle barrel for the Contender.

Ive looked over gunbroker a time or 2 for those and they don't show up very often. Guy I work with has one that he bought used. He never shoots it like the rest of his guns. Its a thing with him to just be able to say he has one.
