I grew up hunting with my Grandfather in the mountains of western NC .... the only big game rifle he owned was a Winchester Model 94 30-30 .... with it he took more black bear and whitetail deer than I'll ever see in the woods .... I remember him telling me that overall he preferred using 150 gr Winchester Silvertip bullets .... in the picture below one of those Silvertips is on the left, they haven't been in production for many years .... in the center and on the right you can see their Ballistic Silvertips .... we hunted in the thick woods found on the northern slope of Mt Mitchell where a 25 yard shot was pretty much the norm .... I wouldn't hesitate to load them for hunting black bear, boar, or deeroctogon3030 wrote: No, only the 150gr. I like the velocity of the 150's better. Soon as I can get the Hornady FTX ballistic and Winchester silvertip I am gonna see if it shoots those well. Will let you guys and gals know.

.
Out to 100yds I saw no difference in performance between 150 and 170 in my .30-30.
