Some range time with the Henry 45-70

Post by PMC » Sun May 15, 2016 9:39 pm

Got a chance to get to the outdoor range today. Took the Henry 45-70 with some Remington 405 grain rounds.

This is two shots offhand at 50 yards at a 2" stop sign sticker. Little high but this was gun down at the ready, pull up, cock the trigger, fire, eject the round get back on target and fire again. I think I will leave the sights alone. Next time I go back out I will try 100 yards with a rest and see how it groups. Did some more shooting, all good groupings but this was the only target picture I got.

Don't know if I will keep the ammo sleeve on it but it fits very well. Ordered it from Midway a couple of weeks ago for about $6.00

Here is the rifle case, it's got 5 zippered pockets and has good padding.

Another thing I put together was a small water proof case. I put some foam in it and I can carry another 14 rounds.
I put a cleaning cloth, bore snake, 3 size mini screw driver set for disassembly, small bottle of oil and this box of ammo, all in the rifle case. Should be a great rig for deer and wild hog.

Nice shots! I like the cartridges on the stock, looks good I think. Nice case too. That's a bad*ss looking rifle. 8-)

I haven't shot at stop signs since I was a teenager. ;)

Great offhand shooting.

Good range report, PMC.

Great shooting off hand at 50 yards! With the group you placed so close to that stop sign, I would have left the sights alone as well.
Looking forward to your 100-yard report. Have fun with it!

Sounds like a good day, I am not sure I could call a 45-70 kicking me in the shoulder Painless. :D

Beautiful rifle and a great sling. Good shooting at 50 yards.

Thanks for the detailed description and pictures of your rifle and well considered accessories, your day at the range, and your plans for the Henry! Oh, yeah! And, great shooting at 50 yards! Wow.

good shooting .... I don't know the trajectory for the shells you were shooting but as a general matter I'd believe that it would serve you well out to over 100 yards .... looking forward to hearing your bench shooting results
