First rounds through the BBS carbine
First rounds through the BBS carbine
I made it to the range today with my new carbine. I checked the sights at 15 yards. The elevation was at its lowest setting and I had to raise it 2 notches after the first two rounds. The windage was just a tad to the right so I tapped the rear sight to the left ever so slightly. After that I was pretty close so I didn’t do any more adjustments. After warming up a bit my groups got a little better. I put 50 rounds of Monarch (PPU) 158gr SJHP and 25 rounds of Federal American Eagle 158gr JSP through the rifle at 15, 25 and 50 yards. It’s a sweet shooter! It does have noticeably more recoil than my BBB 20” but it’s not bad at all. I was also pleased to discover the magazine actually holds eight rounds instead of the advertised seven. The only flaw I’ve found is in the rear sight. The white diamond on the insert is out of alignment with the notch. See the picture below. I may email Henry and ask for another. Meanwhile, I will attempt to flip it over to the plain black side. That might even work better for me. I know the rifle is capable of better groups than I was getting. At any rate, it’s definitely minute of deer at 50 yards. I couldn’t be happier with this rifle!

Impressive first outing. Definitely minute of deer. Glad you are liking the carbine. It is such a capable rifle.
And ask Henry for that new sight. I'm sure they will oblige.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Real good shooting. That's a nice rifle for sure. Once you get the rear sight fixed up, you're good to go.

Nice shooting Deano. Looks like the guy with the white paint missed where it was supposed to go. I turn mine over. I dont much care for the white diamond staring at me. But Id still send Henry an email and get a good sight. Id also enclose that picture.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: First rounds through the BBS carbine
Impressive sight-in Range Report you gave us, and very good photos to take us alongside your shooting.
Those white paper plates with splash targets were perfect. You and your .357 Carbine nicely grouped those POIs.
What I most of all like of your work today is that you did it with the stock, iron sights, Deano. Great job!

Re: First rounds through the BBS carbine
That's better anyway. The notch is where it should be, line it up and let that lead fly...

Re: First rounds through the BBS carbine
Very nice shootin', Deano! Before you turned that sight around, it looked like the notch was off-center, but now it looks fine. Odd. I'd still get HRA to send you a new one.
Gotta love paper plate targets!

Re: First rounds through the BBS carbine
Actually the notch was correct but the white diamond was off center. It was confusing my eye until I figured out what was wrong. Now that I’ve flipped it around it should be much easier to see the front sight. Hopefully I can take her out again next weekend and try again. I will contact Henry and ask for another one, though.ESquared wrote:Very nice shootin', Deano! Before you turned that sight around, it looked like the notch was off-center, but now it looks fine.
