Pretty Good Day

Post by Mistered » Sun Nov 04, 2018 7:15 pm

Got out to send a few rounds downrange today. Kinda windy but mostly clear and I managed these groups. The first is with my Winchester 100 year Commemorative and this is three shots at 50 yards benchrested - like 3/8" of an inch!

Next is six with my BBB .357 also benchrested. Not as good but it was getting windy.

I made a slight change which I think improved my groups - I changed to .093 aperture diameter from a .125 on the Williams sights on both rifles and it gave me a sharper view of my front sights.

Very nice shooting, that's for sure! Peeps on both rifles? Or a scope on the 30-30?

Or a scope on the 30-30?
That would be sacrilege on this particular rifle!
Williams receiver sights on both.

Very impressive groups, especially with that 30-30. Love it.

This is literally the tightest group I have ever shot with a 30-30.
I attribute it to the ammo, gun, narrower aperture for the sight and maybe not particularly important but I have been figuring a way to increase the LOP on this rifle as the stock was a bit short for me.
Well i have been thinking of ways to 'lengthen' the stock but in the meantime I was scrounging around through my gun junk and found an older Winchester plastic buttplate and it fit perfectly over the top of the steel one the stock so it added about a 1/2" which really helped.
I could still use about another 1/2" so this winter I'll fab a piece of 1/2" brass flat bar into an extension and with the plastic Winchester butt plate will be about right.

Looks like pine cones and forest targets could be in trouble. Cast or jacketed in the 30-30

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Cast or jacketed in the 30-30
The Speer 100 Grain half jacket 'Plinkers' - an absolute great bullet for light 30-30 loads.

Good day indeed!
I'd take that. Jackrabbits beware.
