Big Boy .45 Colt, and some long range redemption

Post by Ratchet » Sat Aug 04, 2018 10:47 pm

Had a fun day at the range today. The load is an HSM 255 copper plated flat point over 9.5 gr unique, averaged 1140 fps at 15 feet. Targets at 50 yards. 5 shot groups. The “flyer” on the first target was 1st shot, before a sight correction, then 5 more.

Shot my .308, the “Zombie Slayer” a couple weeks ago, and got beat up pretty bad by range gremlins. It started bad and got worse, ending with the replacement of a few small parts.

I took care of all my issues, and was rewarded with this. My last 14 shots at 1000 yards, 12 hits. Wind nudged 2 shots just off the edge of the target. I wear electronic earmuffs, makes it really cool to hear that clang from that far away. Fun day today.

Great POIs/shooting with the Henry .45LC lever gun! Any of your targets are keepers, Ratchet.

Really like your telling of the "long-range redemption" after beating down the range gremlins. 11/14 clangs at 1000 yards is most impressive shooting --- congrats on the good work! :D

Very, very best result, as always, when you said ---> "...it's really cool to hear that clang from that far away. Fun day today."

Very, very nice! I don't even know where I'd go to safely set up a 1,000 yard shot, so count yourself lucky AND skilled! Thanks for sharing and good work!

It’s beeb a long time since I shot at a thousand yards. Don’t think I could hit anything like you did.
