BBS .357 Just Gets Better and Better

Post by ESquared » Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:03 pm

Here's today's quick visit to the indoor range. Except for the flyer (which was from the first 5-round group), I'm pretty happy.

Working toward longer yardages. Last outing was 25 yards/75', today, I was at 100'/33.3 yds.

Pretty much just stopped after 15 rounds. Beyond that, it just seemed like it would have been "empty calories."

And this Fiocchi 158 gr target stuff is pretty spot-on!

Here's a shot, too, of the front sight set-up.

Some days you just see it great, right?

I see you're getting along great with that Lyman globe sight, now. Nice work. Keep it up.

Thanks, NCG. The good news is I was able to see how I was printing through these five-shot groups, and knew what I had to do to bring the groups down, and then was able to do it. What you're seeing there are the groups just getting progressively better through the session.

But, like you say, gotta keep it up and need to get to 50 yds consistently indoors, then move to an outdoor range, where I can get to 75 yds minimum.

I'm on my timeline for deer camp.

I got a pic from my son's father-in-law a couple of days ago, taken from his trail cam. Will post it in "Hunting" for comments.

Remember to stay in shape need to keep working out. So sometimes gotta keep on even if there are "empty calories".

Nice shooting!

Thanks, Coach! I'll try to find the right balance between "endurance" calories and "just eating."

Didn't have a ton of time this morning, and, once I landed those groups, I figured I'd not tempt fate and quit while I was ahead.

And, at the risk of rationalizing/justifying my SGC purchase, I don believe that putting 100 rounds or so per week through that sweet shooter (with the same sight set-up) is serving me well when it comes time to take out the Big Boy!

How do you like that bead-post front sight? Are you able focus on it?

Yes. It's the Shaver insert, much finer detail than the inserts that come with the Lyman. I like it better because it doesn't tend to cover up the intended POI at longer distances, where the bullseye gets pretty small.

That said, lighting matters a lot, at least to my eyes. This indoor range I use has inconsistent lighting, so picking up any of the Peepsight/Lyman set-ups is easier in natural light.
