... and then there is the S&W .500 caliber. That is one I'd like to shoot at least once someday.

I agree, I’d love to shoot one.
but a .460 That also shoots 454, and 45 long colt seems like a much more versatile and perfectly capable revolver

Absolutely. My home defense shoots .45 LC. Though the .500 is, in my opinion, a novelty experience I'd like to have some day.

The recoil on the 460 Smiths I've shot was actually not too bad, thanks to the rifling Smith uses and the compensator. It was that incredible concussion that took its toll on me. After about 20 shots, my face felt like it hd been in an oven for an hour. Pretty brutal.

Ive shot both the 460 and the 500. I also owned a 475 Linebaugh and a 460. Of the three the 475 was the worst because it was out of a Freedom Arms with no brake of any kind. A full house 475 will get your attention and then some. Its definitely not something a guy wants to plink with. I happen to like cabbage especially cabbage steaks on the grill. There good.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
