AW 45/70

Post by Bodanny » Mon Jul 02, 2018 5:04 am

Hi friends sorry it took so long to get back with this but couldn't see good enough with cataract in my right eye had laser fix it couple weeks ago . I shot first at 50 yards using 300 gr ball. Silver tips and held about a 1 1/2 group after adjusting rear sight then moved back to 100 yard bench and shot 2 in group this is with iron sights so for me this is good and these loads were 63.5 gr of H335. Aw had a little more recoil then with same load in my cc 45/70 but still not bad enough to cause me to flench bad. Also i shot some 405 gr Missouri coated cast with 34 gr of H4198 and grouped 1 1/2 in with these at 50 yds and they had a little more kick . No leading from about 20 shots. Didn't use crony on cast bullets but data said about 1450 fps.

Also I didn't say how the AW felt it was balanced great cycled excellent . I will only use this rifle with iron sights for shooting up to 150 yard shots and my cc for longer being it is scoped. I love both of these rifles and may even carry both hunting at same time in deer stands this year

good to hear the 300 gr (Nosler) Ballistic Silvertips perform well in your rifle .... we have found they excel in our 45-70
