It may come to that but I guess I'm a number 2 when it comes to that.

I as well had an issue with a Henry Big Boy. I had to send it back. But after doing so Im glad I did. I get the frustration side of it nobody wants to go through the issues of returning one. I had the same what a pain in the rear feelings. But it all turned out well and it wasnt so bad after all. I would do it again. I just went thru it with a JM Marlin 39A. It was a gun on GB I bid on used in really nice shape. It was a later model 39A but none the less it was a JM gun. Someone had it I believe and got tired of it not extracting shells. The extractor was not working right. I think the guy who owned it before got rid of it for that reason. It aggravated me that I bought a gun with an issue but thats the chance you take buyin used. Lucky for me there is a company in Washington State that makes extractors for 39A. I bought one of theres did some fitting with it and now the gun works good.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I contacted HRA today about my 22mag Octagon. The bore on my 22lr and 17hmr have substantially deeper gooves than the 22mag. The grooves of the 22mag can be described as whisppy. The 22mag also has several straight lines running the length of the bore.
Trying to turn this negative into positive,
I asked that if it does turn out that the barrel needs to be replaced, if I could get a 24 inch long barrel octagon installed.

Maybe a departure from what you are experiencing but are you sure it is not just 'target rip' - are your targets stapled to a solid backing or just 'loose' on a target frame? Seen this before and have corrected it for some experiencing the same thing.

That is stapled to a corrugated card board backing mounted to a wood frame.

I would call Henry and send them those pics. Im betting you will get either a new gun or total barrel replacement

I feel pretty confident that we can resolve my issues with the rifle.
My other Henry rifles are good shooters.
