PT7 -- Stevens 20ga Pump -- 20 rounds

Post by PT7 » Tue Apr 17, 2018 7:53 pm

A little over two weeks ago I took my new Stevens Pump out for the first time and sighted in the ghost-ring rear sight. Today I got out to the MO Parma Woods outdoor range for another go at it. I wasn't disappointed --- it shoots well, easy to handle the pump action, and recoil is no-never-mind to me (fortunately!). I shot off hand at 25 yards and 50 yards.

Ammo, Targets (A-D), Distance
~~Shot a 5-round group of slugs at each target; sent total of 20 rounds down range.
~~Targets A, B, D were shot with Herter's rifled slugs, 2-3/4", 3/4 oz., 1350fps.
~~Target C was shot with Brenneke K.O. slugs, 2-3/4", 3/4 oz., 1550fps. @ muzzle, 1350fps @ 50 yards.
~~Four homemade cardboard targets, each with a 1" orange bull.
~~A & B measured approx 9"W x 12"H, and were set at 25 yards.
~~C & D measured approx 9"W x 14"H, and were set at 50 yards.

My first 5 POIs on A I call a "happy camper target." Always a plus for me to start the range time with some good POI placement.

Not sure why I slightly dropped elevation, but I did. Still considered it to be a decent group.

I used the taller targets at 50 yards, just in case! As you can see on target C, I needed that bottom 2". This was my weakest group of POIs. I think the stronger recoil of the Brenneke slugs was on my mind. But to be honest, I know at this distance I just need more practice.

Final group at 50 yards. I got to go home with a grin on my face! :D

Until next time out.
Take care and be safe.

Great shooting, PT7. If you get a look, the deer is yours. May it be so.
