41 Mag Range Trip

Post by BigAl52 » Sat Dec 02, 2017 6:35 pm

I dont have any pictures with this report just some Grasslands range thoughts. I took the BBS 41 mag to the range today along with my AW-45-70. I will make a separate post for it. I really enjoy just shootin steel bowlin pins or clays on the bank. Today it was clays on the bank. It was 60 degrees here today and hardly any wind. Great day to go to the grasslands. Its about a 30 mile trip from my house and I always enjoy it out there. I got set up and pulled the 41 mag BBS Henry assault lever gun out of its case stuffed 10 rounds in the tube and commenced to lever gunning like I knew what I was doing. It was the first time I had taken the 41 to the grasslands. Ive had it to the range indoors but not outdoors. As I was shooting away my assault lever emptied in no time and of course the clay targets were pretty safe. I was shooting at 50 yards off hand. I made a sight adjustment or two along they way and keep pouring those rounds in the 41. Suddenly I had a thought after my hand rolled to the edge of the forend. Hey I better take a break. Its getting hot. But I dont want to because I am have so much fun just pounding away at the dirt and hitting a clay every now and then. While picking up my spent brass and letting the gun cool I decided I needed another Henry. Another Henry in 41 mag. Been wanting one of the brass carbines so now I have a reason to go get one. Life is good. Al

The 41 mag is a caliber that just has like a cult following. Years ago I bought a Smith Model 57 in a presentation case. At that time I think they were 325.00. That was my first taste of the 41. I sold that gun like a fool and was away from 41 for a short period then buying another smith at quite a bit higher price. I always wanted a Marlin in 41 mag but when deciding to own one the price of those was off the charts. I can own 2 Henrys for less than the price of one Marlin in 41. One does need to reload for the 41 but if you choose to do that the 41 in a lever gun is as much fun as the 357. Unique is my powder of choice for the plinking loads and 2400 would be the one I would use for full powder loads. I dont use full power loads much as I haven't done much hunting with the pistol cartridges in lever guns. Al

I don't think I've seen any 41 mag ammo anywhere around here. Interesting, sounds like a fun round.
