No one has made them in decades have they?

Target Sports USA apparently has some in stock:

I meant a firearm chambered in 22 shorts only.

Firearms chambered in 22 Short, only? There have been some relatively recent special runs of the Browning SA-22 in 22 Short and some 22 Short barrels for the Contender on a custom basis (been thinking of one of these). Now if I came across one of those SA-22s in 22 Short ...

You're right, though. Been a long time since anyone has bothered making a 22 Short chambered rifle as a regular production rifle. Kind of a shame. I still think the lowly 22 Short has its merits. Used 22 Shorts, back in my hunting days, for squirrel and rabbit hunting and they worked very well.

When I first started shooting the shorts were the standard if I remember right. Or maybe it was because I was a kid and it was all I could afford.

Shorts, both SV and HV, were still fairly popular back in the 60s when I first started to shoot. We used them a lot for our plinking, which in those days, was shooting tin cans, bottles, dirt clods or whatever out in the back 40. The only time we used paper targets was for sighting in the guns. Those were great times.

These days, those targets have been replaced with metal spinner/reactive targets, given the way glass and cans are recycled and that's a good thing. Metal targets can be used over and over, too. Love shooting them in our backyard air gun range. Brings back good memories and beats cleaning up glass and cans in the backyard. :)

About a mile from where I grew up in Lewiston, ID there was a big power line and we shot the insulators. It wasn't until I was grown that I learned it was a major problem for the electric company.
