Yes it has been a good while since I got the Uberti High Wall 45-70 out and brought along the ol' Mule's Leg too for some 45-70 fun.

Running low on targets I found a deer target and put the buck up on the ironing board. Got back to my 50 yd. platform and from sitting and standing positions worked my point of aim around until I got a center hit on target. My 405 gr. cast bullet load using 13 gr. of Unique shoots well out of the long barrel and would have bagged a big ol' buck! Can't say much for the ironing board as those 45-70 slugs made a mess on the back side!

Then Ol' Black Bart showed up for a fight but I had the Mule's Leg ready and put a quick 4 into ol' Bart from 16 yds. Love shooting that thing and it is real handy and quick to get on target.

Looks like a lot of fun. The 45-70 was supposed to be my next Henry. Plans changed after a fall led to a surgery on the right shoulder. My ortho, also a shooter, said NO 45-70s. Since he was my guy for three decades, I listened.
Didn't mean I had to like it.

Feeling bad for both the ironing board and Ole’ Black Bart. Well maybe not Bart but that ironing board will be hitting the scrap yard soon.

Interesting comparison of felt recoil from both... I shot a couple of the "mild" 500 gr. Black Butterfly loads thru both guns and recoil was milder than the bigger High Wall. The Mule's Leg will rotate up a bit in my hand but very controlable almost like shooting a warm 45 Colt. The High Wall had more of a definite push back in shoulder more so than my 405 gr/Unique load both on mild side for a 45-70. With the more open ghost ring sight the Mule's Leg is easy to get on target. Love shooting that thing and it could be a great trail gun with bear around! 405 or 500 gr. bullet at 1000 FPS will get a job done!
