At the Range with new O/U derringer

For the first time today, I got to the range with my new Bond Arms derringer. Before I went, I changed out the original Rosewood grips and put on a set of BA black rubber grips. Sure made a difference in keeping a solid hold of this 23.5 oz. derringer.

I shot off hand, standing at 7 yards, and used both barrels: .357 Magnum and .22LR.
Either it is the fixed sights, or the shooter (betting the shooter).....I was fairly consistent in my POIs being off to the left of target, and initially a little high. I'm good with my first-time results, but look forward to more range time --- and more fun. This S/A derringer is a hoot to shoot!

I see you have the NEW model with the easy pull trigger . You know to shoot the bottom barrel 1st in the big bore guns and the top barrel last . There is a special way to pull the trigger too . .I only have the 4.25" 357 and my 44-40 barrels left . I sold all the other ones in the bottom pic .

Yes, this newer model has the trigger and hammer upgrade. BA started building their derringers this way in late 2012.

I shoot bottom barrel first. Instruction manual states the trigger pull is "back and downward." This wasn't as noticeable a "movement" as was on the older BASS I had with the original trigger design. You are absolutely correct: "...easy pull trigger" on this gun compared to old design.

Second day of my Range Report -- the O/U clean!

Since it's been close to 3 years that I last had a Bond Arms derringer, I'd about forgotten how easy, and how much fun, it is to clean it.
It basically has the same disassembly ease as a SxS or O/U shotgun -- just pop the barrel off and go for it. Easy, easy access to receiver end to run the cleaning tools through. And with the base completely open, bronze brushes and cleaning rags get into every nook & cranny.

So I just spent an enjoyable hour in the very pleasant sunshine and cool fall temps (still only mid-60s) cleaning both the .357 & .22LR barrels, and the derringer platform. Of course, it was also fun to re-think the range time yesterday, and plan ahead for next time shooting O/U. Fun stuff!

Cool guns, I have wanted one for a long time. But other guns and stuff keep jumping in line ahead of it.
It seems to always be a "next year" gun. But it keeps me looking forward to next year.

I did the Cowboy action stuff and carry my Bond as a side arm for the side matches . I carried my 4.25" in 410 on my farm around my pond to kill Copperheads and Cotton mouth snakes .
